University Hills is the home of the Narwhals, a summer youth swim team for University Hills residents. For Summer 2018, the Narwhals practice from June 4 through August 11, 2018 at the Coltrane Pool, Monday through Friday, from 3:30 to 6:30pm. We currently have 122 swimmers. For more up-to-date information, visit the team’s official page for meet schedule at: www.uhillsnarwhals.org.
Inaugural Season (2017) Announcement:
We are pleased to announce the launch of our community’s own summer swim team, the University Hills Narwhals. Organized under the auspices of the Irvine Swim League, the Narwhals will offer summer training to children living in University Hills, aged 5-18, from May 30th through August 5th, 2017.
We view this team not only as a great swimming experience but also a way to make friendships, strengthen positive values, and build a stronger community. Please see our mission and vision statements below, or visit our team page.
The Narwhals will train late afternoons during the season, Monday to Friday, at the Coltrane Pool (between 3:00 pm and 6:45 pm). We will occupy some of the lanes during those hours and leave the rest of the pool, the wading pool, and the spa open for use by other University Hills residents. Each age group will be assigned a specific time slot of no more than one hour within this period. A few meets will be held on Saturdays, though during the first year none of these will be hosted within University Hills. The fee for participation will be $265 per child for the summer, with sibling discounts available.
Though coaching is provided, this is not a “learn to swim” program. All swimmers should be water safe to join the program. Basic requirements for participating thus include (a) living in University Hills, (b) meeting the age requirement, and (c) being water safe. Children are encouraged to participate the whole summer but can join the team even if they have to miss certain weeks or certain days of the week.
Registration will be open starting March 18 on www.UhillsNarwhals.org. We are also having a big sign-up party on Saturday, March 18, from 10 am to 12 noon at the Community Center. Narwhal swimmers will be able to meet the coaches, see their new teammates, and try on and order team swimwear for the season!
We are also looking for assistant coaches, volunteer coaches, and volunteers to serve on the board of directors, so please contact us about these possibilities as well.
Thank you to ICHA, HRB, and University Hills residents for warmly embracing this new team. We appreciate your support. We are looking forward to seeing your children on the Narwhals team this summer!
