CSD BOOK CLUB
Sunday, January 17, 2021
6-7:30 PM

Following up from our November 15th book club, we will continue our discussion on “My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies” by Resmaa Menakem.
Buy the book at independent Bookshop or at Amazon.
Dr. Cynthia Haq, Clinical Professor and Chair, Family Medicine, UCI School of Medicine will lead the discussion on this critical work that analyzes the cumulative effect of stress and racism on the bodies of people of color. (See review below).
When I read the book, I personally found it difficult because it surfaced my awareness of the sources of trauma and pain in my own body, but also restorative, for the same reasons. While the focus of the book are the effects of racism on our bodies, the remedies and knowledge in this book are transferable to anyone who is interested in being aware of the potential sources of their pain and anxiety.
