Keep Them Out:

  • Inspect your home regularly for signs of rats (chewing, black greasy marks, scat, piles of snail shells)
  • Eliminate entry points into your home (rats can squeeze through holes as small as a quarter)
  • Use hardware cloth (not chicken wire) to cover holes.
  • Copper mesh or scouring pads can be used in smaller spaces to fill gaps.
  • Don’t forget the garage.
  • Guard the garbage (close lids on trash cans, especially yard waste cans with food waste)
