The Cool Block Program is developed to create more planet-friendly, disaster-resilient, and community-rich blocks within our City. The City of Irvine was chosen as one of three cities to participate in the Cool City Challenge to create this climate moonshot strategy — an ambitious, exploratory, and ground-breaking approach to reach community wide and inclusive sustainability.  Cool Block Leaders will work with their neighbors to take meaningful action over a period of five months in five topic areas:

  • Disaster Resilience
  • Carbon Reduction
  • Water Stewardship
  • Neighborhood Livability
  • Empowering Others

The program has already trained over 50 Block Leaders since launching in January 2022. University Hills is leading the effort with 12 block leaders who are working together with over 40 households in the cool block program.

Join us today to be a part of a fun, inclusive and sustainable experience to help our city reach its Moonshot goal of becoming Carbon Neutral by 2030. For more information on the Cool Block Program, please visit: coolirvine.org
