The Ecological Preserve is part of the UC Nature network of natural areas throughout California that support university-level teaching, research, and public service. The Ecological Preserve is a 62-acre parcel of coastal sage scrub and grassland habitat managed by the University of California, Irvine. The mission of the UC Nature is to contribute to the understanding and wise management of the Earth.
The UCI Ecological Preserve offers unique opportunities to study local coastal sage scrub and grassland ecosystems a few steps from campus. This proximity makes it the perfect location for long-term research studies that create engaging opportunities in field data collection for undergraduates and accessible field sites for graduate studies.
