Sustainability Committee Meetings are open to all residents. During these meetings we discuss the progress and future plans for projects.

November 6, 2024

October 3, 2024

  • The Biodiversity Project will solicit community input for native plants and seating at Oak Grove Park (Pauling/Coltrane) at the Fall Fiesta (Oct 13). The initial plantings will be along the street. Landscape architect will also attend Fall Fiesta.

September 4, 2024

  • Biodiversity Project held a meeting (9/17/2024) with ICHA and architect at Oak Grove Park (Pauling & Coltrane) to discuss plans for revisions to this green space. Design charettes commence in Oct.
  • SC Table at the Fall Fiesta (Oct 13) will focus on the Biodiversity Project, soliciting Uhills residents’ input.
  • HOOT has 3 new nesting boxes due to be installed soon. All rodent boxes will contain SenesTech’s Evolve (fertility inhibitor) for the next year.
  • Zero Waste Team assisted at the Mooncake Festival (Sept 15).

January 15, 2024

  • Winter Solstice Ceremony (12/21/2024) was well attended (20+) and very beautifully done.
  • What’s Happening (1/20/2024) Sustainability and HOOT will have tables, CRV will be collecting
  • Let’s Talk: Naturescape (1/24/20204 6-8:30pm) Kailen Mooney (Director, UCI-Nature) and Matt Deines (UCI Campus Planning and Sustainability)
  • Repair Cafe (4/6/2024 – tentative) Brief discussion about repairers being unavailable on 4/20. Decided not to join Spring Fling/Earth Day (4/20) as repairers need space and children may challenge safety protocols. May add more activities to this event
  • Book Club (March, April, May 2024) plan to consult leader for book nomination, continue with Sundays, will book room
  • CRV $4,165 Earned (Jan-Dec 2023) $7,093 Since collection began at community center (April, 2022) $10,313 Since program began (Spring, 2019)

  • Planning for Winter Solstice Ceremony near Los Trancos (12/21/2023)
  • Brief discussion of staffing a table at What’s Happening event (1/20/2024)
  • Reminder about the Let’s Talk: Naturescape event (1/24/2024) as it relates to changes in common areas of Uhills, butterfly garden, etc.
  • Discussion of continuing BookClub with another selection
