Old Business

On behalf of the children in University Hills, Santa and Mrs. Claus visited the community center on Saturday, December 15, 2012.  Santa and Mrs. Claus saw 60 children and about 120 parents.  Each child received a book and had juice and cookies while parents enjoyed coffee.   A group of University Hills University High students sang holiday songs.  Adrian Rangel provided holiday music throughout the evening on the piano.

New Year’s Eve Party:  The New Year’s Eve party at the community center drew over 150 adults and 50 children.  Food was catered by Linda Kirby Catering for the adults and children had Gina’s pizza.  A variety of pastries were served for dessert and a champagne toast was held right before midnight.  A DJ provided dance music throughout the evening.   The HRB wishes to thank Julia Wan, Sandrine Biziaux,  Victoire Figotin, and Jeff Beckwith for all the work their committee did to make the evening a success.  Additionally, the HRB would like to thank Andrew Herndon and Ron Reid for extra assistance they provided.

New Business

Early A.M. Use of the Dog Park: A complaint was received from a resident about individuals using the dog park as early as 6:30 a.m.  Residents are reminded the park has posted hours of operation and these should be followed.  A member of the dog park committee will talk to the resident and see what accommodation can be reached.

Dog Bites on Bartok:  Three residents of Bartok Court were bitten by an off-leash dog the last week of December.  The dog bites were reported to the campus police and animal control.  The dog has been placed on ten day quarantine.  The dog owner has received a prior warning about the dog from the HRB.  Residents on Bartok Court will receive a letter from the HRB and ICHA regarding this particular dog.  It is against California state law to have a dog off-leash in public areas.  Dogs off leash should be reported to the City of Irvine Animal Control Service Unit.

Call for Elections: Four seats are up for election on the HRB.  The information regarding the election and how to run for a vacant seat has been placed on the listserv and the Uhills website.  Those interested in running for a seat should send a short candidate statement to Andrew Herndon (aherndon@uci.edu) in the ICHA office.  The statements should be received by January 23, 2013.  Questions regarding the election may also be addressed to any current HRB member.

The HRB will host a Valentine’s Day reception in the community center lounge from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on February 14, 2013.  Champagne, canapés, and chocolate will be served.  Further details on the event will be posted on the listserv and at Uhills.org in the near future.  This event will be an adult’s only (over 21) event.

In conjunction with the further development of Area 10, the HRB has been requested by ICHA to poll the community on its interest in recreational amenities.  The poll will address possible opportunities within the existing common Uhills area.  An on-line community survey will be developed and sent electronically to all households.  The poll is scheduled for distribution in March or April.
